Wrapping up A Key Decision

In Step 2, we have discussed selecting an issue to tackle as a group in a democratic way. Democratic decision-making means that not everyone who participated will receive their first choice, we all make compromises to work together!

Before putting the final stamp of approval on the issue that has been selected, have a debrief discussion led by students. This allows them to voice their concerns and jump onboard.

It is important for everyone to understand the rationale behind the decision, and feel like their voice mattered.

STEP 2 IS DONE IF:

  • The issue is one the students are interested in
  • The issue meets your educational standards
  • Youth worked in partnership with educators to make the decision
  • The issue impacts the larger community, not just the youth
